Grampians Health Ballarat places vital importance on the input and involvement of our community and consumers in our operations. The Community Advisory Committee is a formal committee who advises the hospital on establishing and maintaining effective systems to ensure  the health services provided meet the needs of the communities we serve, and that the views of consumers are taken into account in the hospital’s decision-making processes.

In accordance with the Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) guidelines, Grampians Health Ballarat makes its gifts, benefits and hospitality policy register available to our community.All public sector employees have a duty to always put the public interest above their private interests when carrying out their official duties. The policy outlines when potential, perceived or actual conflicts may occur and the steps that must be taken to avoid, disclose, mitigate and / or manage a conflict of interest.

Grampians Health Ballarat has committed to an Arts in Health Strategy that promotes environments that utilise arts to engage with the community and foster connection.  Art and creativity will be embedded into the Base Hospital redevelopment. A strategy informed by theory, experience and evidence with a focus on the therapeutic benefits of the arts and providing welcoming facilities and spaces.

Part of our vision at Grampians Health is to learn about the views of our local and diverse community through representation across the health service. Community Reference Groups (CRGs) have been established across the Grampians region to provide an ongoing, formal channel of communication between Grampians Health and its community.

The year 2020 will be remembered as a time of significant and unprecedented challenges, as the world battled the coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19. In the months from March to June 2020, Ballarat Health Services’ agile response and commitment to our region served us well. During that period there were 14 positive COVID-19 cases treated. We recorded no fatalities, and transmission was contained rapidly whenever a case appeared.  Ballarat Health Services’ community leadership role, from community education and support, through to testing and in-patient care solidified the standing of Ballarat Health Services at a time of great uncertainty.  We are very proud of the skill, dedication and flexibility shown by our staff, and the support and trust received from patients and families during this time. While there was fear and uncertainty, there was also great collaboration and support.

You can now register your details to visit a Ballarat Health Services site in advance. This will save time at check in. Visitor restrictions are currently in place across Ballarat Health Services. If you are visiting a resident or patient, please check with the ward or facility that your visit is permitted, and coordinate with the patient or resident to ensure that you are not exceeding the number of permitted visitors on site.
