The Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC) is a partnership between Austin Health and Ballarat Health Services (BHS) that provides Radiation Therapy services to the Ballarat and Grampians region.

What do we do?

Radiation Therapy (or radiotherapy) uses high-energy radiation (x-rays) to damage and kill cancer cells. It can be used on its own or together with other cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy or surgery. A machine called a linear accelerator uses precise technology to target your treatment to a specific area of your body.

Your Radiation Oncologist will work with your treatment team to choose the best treatment approach for you. For further information about the treatment approaches used at BAROC, please click here. Link to treatment techniques.

Your treatment team includes a Radiation Oncologist (Specialist Doctor), Radiation Therapists, Radiation Oncology Nurses, Medical Physicists and Administrative Staff. You may also be referred to Allied Health professionals such as Social Workers, Dietitian, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists.
