SECU is a 12-bed secure inpatient treatment facility for those experiencing severe and enduring mental illness and associated behavior disturbances.

What do we do?

SECU provides slow-stream rehabilitation that aids the transition to a less restrictive environment for ongoing community care within the mental health system.

Who do we care for?

SECU services the Area Mental Health Services (AMHS) of Grampians, Barwon and Glenelg (South Western), and has 12 beds that accommodate a gender sensitive profile. Indication for admission may include when all efforts of treating a person in a less restrictive environment, within the community setting, have been unsuccessful.

What can you expect?

  • Slow stream rehabilitation, provided in a secure environment.

How can you access the service?

SECU referrals can be forwarded to the SECU NUM for coordination by the SECU Intake Panel, as all admissions are planned and clients can only be accepted from a bed-based facility; the SECU does not accommodate direct community admissions.

Under Victorian Law, the Secure Extended Care Unit is a non-smoking environment. We will provide nicotine replacement therapies whilst an in-patient.
