This unit provides short-term treatment and care for persons 65 years and over.

The Steele Haughton Unit is a 10-bed acute hospital unit for persons 65 years and over, requiring inpatient mental health specialised treatment and care. During the admission to the Steele Haughton Unit, the team will work with you and your family/carer to develop recovery goals, review treatment and discuss discharge plans.

Steele Haughton is a 10-bed hospital unit for persons 65 years and over, requiring treatment for mental health conditions by a specialised care team. During admission the team will work with you and your family/carer to develop recovery goals, review treatment and discuss discharge plans. 

This unit provides acute inpatient assessment and treatment for older people aged 65+, during an acute phase of mental illness that cannot be managed in a community setting. The unit is located in Ballarat at 102 Ascot Street.

 

Who do we care for?

People aged over 65 years, experiencing an acute mental illness, which cannot be managed in a community setting.

How can you access this service?

Access to this service is through the Aged Community Mental Health Team.

Under Victorian law, the Steele Haughton Unit is a non-smoking environment. We will provide nicotine replacement therapies whilst you are an inpatient.
