The Foundation is governed by an independent Council, which oversees all donations.
Each year the BHS Foundation reinvests donated funds, generating interest, which is then drawn down on to support Ballarat Health Service's key strategic goals. Reinvestment of these funds ensures that your gift will provide patients with the best possible facilities, equipment, surgical expertise and access to research, long into the future.
Chairman of the Council - Lindsay Florence
Appointed June 2012
Lindsay Florence is a retired Superintendent of Police and current Rotarian. Awarded the Australian Police Medal and Paul Harris Fellow, for services to the community. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration, Graduate Diploma in Public Administration. He brings experience covering Ethical Standards and Community Engagement to the Foundation along with a desire to contribute to the local community.
Vice Chairperson - Mark Patterson
Appointed July 2007
Mark is Executive Manager - Sport and Active Living at the City of Ballarat. Formerly a long-standing AFL sports administrator and board member of BHS, where his understanding and ongoing passion to support the foundation was created. Mark is also Chairman and board member of Keystone Radiology, and a board member of Ballarat and Clarendon College.
Treasurer - Timothy Bodey
Appointed March 2020
Tim began his professional career with Huntley, McArdle & Glass back in 1996 and progressed quickly to become a partner in 2003. The HMG business then merged into what has now become the Findex Group in 2006 where Tim has continued as a Business Advisory Partner. Tim completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Federation University Australia, formerly University of Ballarat. He is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, holds a Certificate of Public Practice (CAANZ), is the current National Treasurer of Pipe Bands Australia and is a former President and Treasurer of a number of not-for-profit organisations over his time.
Secretary - Geoff Millar

Geoff’s commitment to the Foundation continues following the completion of his twenty years as Director of Foundation and Fundraising.
His endeavors now focus on ensuring that philanthropic gifts to the Foundation in support of Ballarat Health Services are prudently managed and strategically applied to enable our staff to deliver the best health care to our community.
Geoff is also a director of the Ballarat Grammar Foundation and has had an extensive career in education administration, teaching and curriculum development and as an advocate of Government Health Policy.
Looking forward, the redevelopment of the Base Hospital site presents an opportunity for the Foundation to be engaged in the creation of a state-of-the-art health care facility.
Member - Peter McCracken

After some 10 years as historical litigation counsel for Child & Family Services Ballarat Inc, Peter McCracken is now fully retired after some 45 years in legal practice in Ballarat. He is a former member of the combined Ethics Committee for the Ballarat Base & St John of God hospitals, a former Board member and president of YMCA Ballarat, a former member of the National board of YMCA Australia, the former president of the Regional Pool committee, a past Honorary Solicitor for Golden Point Football Club, a past member and president of the Ballarat Club and former president and current member of Ballarat Health Services Foundation.
Peter is a Life Member of YMCA Ballarat, a Life Governor of Ballarat Health Services and the last Senior partner of Cuthberts, Barristers & Solicitors. He played a few games with South Melbourne Football Club during his time at Monash University and was awarded best and fairest player at the conclusion of the inter-varsity football carnival in Perth in 1972.
Member - Janet Ross

Janet Ross has acquired a wide range of experience and expertise during her time in the health industry. Jan is a past trainee of BBH, was Director of Nursing of Casterton Hospital, Director of Nursing and Chief Executive Officer of Creswick Hospital and Director of Nursing and Chief Executive Officer for Penshurst District Health Services.
Jan also held the position of CEO of Colac Area Health and was a consultant in Health Services and Government coordinating surveys throughout Victoria. Jan was President of the Ballarat Trained Nurses League and received an OAM for her long term commitment to Rural Health. Jan is a proud Rotarian of 29 years.
Member - Wayne Lewis

After a successful career with the Australian Defence Force, Wayne joined RMIT University, Melbourne as Head of Department for Aerospace Technology in 1991 and the Victorian Government in 1995. In 2001, Wayne was appointed Director of ICT Investment & Business Development at Multimedia Victoria and appointed as the Victorian Government’s first Commissioner to India in November 2005.
At the end of 2008, Wayne was appointed Deputy Secretary, Industry and Trade and Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Government’s international investment agency, Invest Victoria. Wayne continued in this role until 2010 when he moved into an ongoing part time role with the Victorian Government’s Department of Business and Innovation as a Special Adviser.
Additionally, Wayne has been actively involved with the Victorian university sector as an Honorary Fellow of the Australia India Institute at the University of Melbourne and an advisory role at La Trobe University’s Technology Centre.
On 15 May 2013 the Premier of Victoria announced Wayne’s appointment as the Victorian Government's Commissioner to India for the second time taking up his post in Bangalore in July 2013.
Wayne served as Commissioner overseeing the Victorian Government’s activities and interests India and Sri Lanka for two years completing his posting in early 2015.
