The program runs on Wednesdays at 12pm.
What is relaxation and mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a type of meditation that develops the skill of consciously bringing awareness to body and mind, here and now. This gentle, receptive and compassionate awareness helps in noticing how the body is feeling, what thoughts are doing and letting go of stressful reflections that dwell on the past or anxiety about the future.
What are the benefits?
Research in universities around the world indicates that the regular practice of mindfulness can reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and depression, improve resilience and alleviate pain.
Mindfulness can be particularly useful as way to manage the demands of cancer and the associated uncertainty. It offers the opportunity to learn alternative ways of coping with the challenges (both physical and emotional) of a cancer diagnosis, so that we may be more able to be present in our lives, rather than consumed with the difficulties.
