Grampians Health volunteers proudly offer assistance to community by being involved in our volunteer programs, operating right across the hospital.

The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is just one of those, a program whereby volunteers visit and support elderly people whilst in hospital to prevent any delirium (confusion) and cognitive decline.

The volunteers visit the patients, using therapeutic materials such as books, puzzles and games to interact with the patients to keep them as engaged, active and orientated as possible.

HELP operates on all wards within the Ballarat Base Hospital and within the next few months, will also be visiting patients in the Intensive Care Unit and at the Queen Elizabeth Centre to support the GEM Unit (Geriatric Evaluation and Management) and the IRP Unit (Inpatient Rehabilitation Program).

HELP in Grampians is the only one of its kind in Australia and has had some amazing successful outcomes, with volunteers playing a huge role in making a difference.
