Maternity Unit

Ballarat Health Services Maternity Unit staff are committed to family centred, individualised care, which encourages the involvement of family members in the birth and care of the new baby.
Flexibility and choice are important and the midwives encourage all families to choose the birthing and postnatal options that best suit individual need. We welcome all women and their families to discuss these options with us.
The Maternity Unit is a 22 bed department which has been specifically designed to provide the highest level of emotional and physical care for every women, her family and significant others across the continuum of the childbearing experience.
A total 1201 babies were born during 2007 in the Maternity Unit, which is a record for Ballarat Health Services.
The Maternity Unit is staffed 24 hours a day by a supportive and highly dedicated team of midwives, hospital medical officers and consultant Obstetricians and Paediatricians.
The same maternity unit staff, medical and midwifery are employed in all areas of maternity care, antenatal clinics, intrapartum, postnatal, special care nursery and domiciliary care.
This offers the opportunity for continuity of care across the entire birthing experience.

Visiting Hours

Strictly 2.30 to 4.30 and 6 to 8 pm.
Partners/support persons and other children are welcome to visit anytime, however we request that they also observe rest time to allow the mothers to rest.
