News Update

Friday 26 February 2021

Ballarat Health Services was announced as the host for the Grampians region vaccine hub four weeks ago, and since then there has been a flurry of activity by a dedicated team of staff across our organisation.

Preparation for the vaccine rollout has involved complex requirements for receival, storage, staffing and specialist training to ensure that once vaccines are received we are able to commence immunisation of our population in a safe and effective manner.

We have 30 highly trained staff who will be administering the vaccine to our population.  These Nurse Immunisers have extensive experience over many years, immunising our community against illnessThey have also undertaken specific training in how to administer COVID-19 vaccines.

The first vaccine to be given to Phase 1a aged care residents and frontline healthcare staff is the Pfizer vaccine.

On Sunday 28 February, we expect to receive our first delivery, which will contain 400 thawed doses of the Pfizer vaccine

From Monday 1 March we will commence the Phase 1a vaccination rollout to our Residential Aged Care clients and staff.

Ballarat Health Services expects to receive an additional 1,000 doses of frozen Pfizer vaccine next weekwhich will be used from 9 March when voluntary vaccination of healthcare staff who fall into category Phase 1a of the rollout will commence.

When is it your turn?

This website will provide information on when and where vaccination occurs for each priority group, as those groups become eligible.

At this stage, we are not making community bookings for the vaccination.

The next phases of the vaccination rollout – and what you need to do - will be communicated on this webpage, on the television news, in the newspaper, and on social media.

We have received messages this week from the community wondering when it will be their turnWe are pleased to see that the community is excited about the opportunity to be vaccinated.  After twelve months of global grief, fear, and uncertainty, this is our way out.

Grampians region vaccinations

Our team is working with the Department of Health and local health providers to coordinate vaccinations across the region, and the focus will be to ensure that the vaccination is made available to all those who chose to be vaccinated, in a very safe, inclusive, and accessible way.

Mass vaccination clinics will be established in Ballarat, Ararat, and Horsham.

Communities will also have access to mobile vaccination clinics.

Updates on when and where vaccinations will occur will be communicated on this webpage, on the television news, in the newspaper, and on social media.
